Beyond the Beach!

Beyond The Beach: The Heart and Soul of Barbadian Culture. The Bajan identity is a range of Africa, Europe, and the Caribbean. The island's history of slavery and colonization has left an enduring effect on the Bajan individuals, and their culture shows this mix of influences and origins.

In spite of these past hardships, Bajans are recognized for their cheerful spirit and warmth. They are friendly and inviting. They have a high sense of social obligation, obvious in how they come together to celebrate events and unique celebrations. They are delighted in their skin, and  lots have no interest in finding out more of their African heritage. One notable rogue describes: "I comprehend who I am - I am Bajan; what is the point of digging up the past." Not all concur, and several of the Rogues in Paradise have actually volunteered to do the DNA test to explore their roots and heritage.

The British developed sugarcane plantations on the island, and by the mid-17th century, Barbados became one of the largest sugar makers in the world. It was throughout his time as protector that the British colonised Barbados. That was exceptional news for Barbados and for the other British conies who utilized the Barbados document to produce their own.

The book, Rogues in Paradise, is a traditional account of heritage, history and culture: Check out the blog for the complete story
