Beyond The Beach: The Heart and Soul of Barbadian Culture. The Bajan identity is a range of Africa, Europe, and the Caribbean. The island's history of slavery and colonization has left an enduring effect on the Bajan individuals, and their culture shows this mix of influences and origins. In spite of these past hardships, Bajans are recognized for their cheerful spirit and warmth. They are friendly and inviting. They have a high sense of social obligation, obvious in how they come together to celebrate events and unique celebrations. They are delighted in their skin, and  lots have no interest in finding out more of their African heritage. One notable rogue describes: "I comprehend who I am - I am Bajan; what is the point of digging up the past."
